Polk County Commissioners approve 1876 home development on Lake Hatchineha Rd in Poinciana

September 21, 2023

Polk County commissioners voted 3-1 in favor of a new residental community on Lake Hatchineha Road in Poinciana. In a move that has upset many local residents, plans move forward to include 1876 new houses and commercial space named Creek Ranch. This news is disturbing for some locals as contruction for another housing development is already currently underway at the corner of Marigold and Lake Hatchineha. Local residents worry that the traffic and accidents would quadruple at the already infamous intersection. Recently a 4 way stop was added to the intersection following many incidents. Locals fear events could get worse before the county comes around to progressing the area's road infrastructure. Plans to widen Marigold into a 4 lane road are still several years out. Yet construction could begin immediately, and end prior to road development. This has neighbors upset that Polk County commissioners will not budge to the taxpayer's concerns. A representative of the Polk County's land development division says traffic improvements on Lake Hatchineha Road are also being studied. Many say not enough is being done to assist commuting in the area, leaving local citizens disappointed at the conclusion the county has made.
