Dear Poinciana Citizens:
This year, Labor Day resonated to many with a more substantial meaning. We recognized the many contributions of workers when the fact is the challenging economic times have impacted many families. In the midst of it all, let us value the everyday work we do, not just once a year, but every day and be thankful.
As an update in our mission to strengthen our community and promote the health and quality of life, staff from Polk and Osceola Counties continues to get closer in reaching our goals to provide better services to our residents living in the common corridor. We are working diligently to improve our community while conquering challenges to meet community demands.
Among various items, we have discussed enhancements to Parks and Recreation. Recreation plays an integral role in providing opportunities for interactions among families, work groups, neighborhoods and communities. It builds family unity, promotes sensitivity to cultural diversity, increases community pride, provides a safe place to play and reduces crime. With this in mind, we are evaluating the proposal of vacant lands and partnership for future use.
It is nearly impossible to overstate the importance of ensuring that our families and loved ones are safe. We have taken major strides in increasing law enforcement presence through both Polk and Osceola counties. In comparing statistics to this same time last year, we have seen a decrease in offenses. We will continue to implement crime-preventing techniques and enforce the law to keep our neighborhoods safe for residents and visitors alike.
In collaboration with schools, businesses and community groups, we will reach our goal. However, you play an indispensable role and your involvement is key to a long-term positive change.
On transportation developments, the left-turn lane to Windmill Point on Pleasant Hill Road is complete and open to the public. Our staff continues to work on ensuring greater safety in transport while minimizing adverse effects.
We are fast approaching the General Election on November 4, 2008. I encourage everyone to take an active role in the privilege of exercising your right to vote.
