Poinciana, FL (February 16, 2007) -  Poinciana’s new EEE high school finally has a name:  Liberty High School. 

The new $49 million campus is slated to open for classes in August, with guided tours expected to take place July, according to Principal Gary Preisser. 

“We’re now Liberty High School, our nickname is the Chargers, and our colors are dark green and gold,” said Preisser.

The new high school is being built on a 60-acre tract between Poinciana Boulevard and Pleasant Hill Road on a site made available by Avatar Properties Inc., Poinciana’s developer and primary homebuilder, in a land swap with the School District of Osceola County (SDOC).

Designed to initially accommodate 2,360 students, grades 9-12, the new 280,000 sq. ft. high school fronts Pleasant Hill Road and has been designed around an open courtyard with covered walkway on the perimeter.

Liberty High will feature 3-story classroom buildings, a media center, a 1,336-seat multi-purpose gymnasium, 650-seat auditorium, 485-seat cafeteria, art room, skills development computer labs, and music rooms for band and chorus.  Outdoor facilities include a lighted football stadium, lighted baseball and softball diamonds, two soccer fields, six lighted tennis courts, and four basketball courts.

The school was designed by SchenkelShultz Architects of Orlando and is being built by Turner Construction Company of Orlando.  Poinciana is a 47,000-acre master-planned community in northwest Osceola and northeast Polk counties that has a current resident population of approximately 65,000 and 12 other neighborhood schools (K-12).
